The Constitutional Court of Armenia ruled on 12 January that the commitments included in the protocols on “Establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey” and “Development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey” correspond to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.

This decision was made by the Armenian Constitutional Court on Tuesday.
The ruling, read out by the court chairman, Gagik Harutiunian, concluded that the provisions of the two Turkish-Armenian protocols signed in October “conform to the constitution of the Republic of Armenia.” He also added that according to the second part of the Article 102 of the Armenian Constitution this decision is final and goes into affect after proclamation.
After the protocols were approved by the Constitutional Court, the opposition stopped their demonstrations, initiated by the Dashnakutyun and Heritage parties the day before the court review started.
Azerbaijani Zerkalo.az informed that a member of the Armenian Constitutional Court said that the priority of the protocols is open borders between Armenian and Turkey, and the other obligations gain legal force in the presence of open borders.
