ONE DAY WITH MY FRIENDS: THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY WAS CELEBRATED IN VANADZOR

Vanadzor youth has celebrated the international youth day on August 11 in the Vanadzor State Theater named after H. Abelyan with a photo exhibition and a concert. This was the first time that this holiday was celebrated so significantly in Vanadzor; more than five hundred people participated in the photo exhibition and in the concert. The preparatory activities for this project were started by Peace Dialogue NGO with the support of the NGO’s board members, NGO OWEN in Germany, and from individual contributions from German citizens. From May 2010, more than forty young people were participants in the photo contest and representative of music bands in Vanadzor were involved in the organization.    more»

According to my observations, when watching news in Armenia you hear more words related to “Azerbaijan” and “Turkey” than “Armenia” sometimes, practically always in a negative sense, and - most problematically - practically always having the effect of deepening the enemy image within society. The ever-present enemy image does not, however, confine itself to news programs or state-run media.    more»

ANNOUNCEMENT: One of the main activity focuses of Peace Dialogue is YOUTH. Peace Dialogue wants to start to initiate a dialogue with youth from the community, mobilize them and make them interested in peace activism. Our starting point is to create a group of YOUNG key actors for change by breaking the indifference of a group of youth through organization of activities designed to stimulate interest in peace building and to empower youth for further activities in mobilizing their peers in the community.

RUSSIAN PRESIDENT MEDVEDEV’S THREE-DAY VISIT TO ARMENIA

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, accompanied by his wife and representatives of the Russian government, arrived in Yerevan on August 19 on a state visit to cement the Russo-Armenian military alliance with a new defence agreement. TV PROGRAM ON “GENDER AND GENDER EQUALITY” – HELD ON MIG TV

Edgar Khachatryan, the director of “Peace Dialogue” NGO, was the guest of “Gender and Gender equality” program within the framework of the TV project “Our rights” on Vanadzor’s “MIG-TV” on April 14, 2010. The aim of “Our rights” project, which is being implemented within the framework of the German Marshall Foundation’s “Black Sea regional co-operation” project, is to increase the level of Vanadzor citizen’s legal awareness towards human rights by informing people. The guests of the live broadcast, along with project’s experts, are trying to represent to the TV audience the idea of Gender, its connection with human rights and democracy, and its influence on social and political developments in Armenia.    more»

“NEITHER WAR NOR PEACE” SCREENING FOR ZANGAK BENEFICIARIES

The screening discussion of the documentary “Neither War nor Peace” was organized by Peace Dialogue NGO for Zangakatun charitable foundation’s Zangak social service center’s beneficiaries on August 27. The previous screening discussion of Peace Dialogue member Vahagn Antonyan and his Azerbaijani colleague Asef Guliev from AzTV was held in “Crossing Roads” NGO on August 2. Several participants of “One day with my friends” project of Peace Dialogue also attended the discussion in Zangak, who had been actively involved in the discussion and shared together with the Zangak beneficiaries their emotions and thoughts after seeing the documentary.    more»

“The Role of Youth from the South Caucasus in Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts: Possibilities of Participation” youth seminar was held in Kutaisi on the 1st and 2nd of May by the Sukhumi Foundation. The aim of the seminar was to actively involve youth in peace building processes. The seminar was organized with the support of OMNIBUS 1325 International Peacebuilding Network and was one of several seminars organized by the network within the framework of peace building issues within the region.    more»
